William James Winworth Barker, Jr. was born in New Orleans on June 10, 1898. He was the son of William H. Barker (1868-1938) and Mathilda Schild Barker (1877-1964), both natives to Louisiana. Barker lived in Algiers, and worked as a salesman and photographer. In the 1930’s, he moved to North Carolina, marrying Lula Rhoena Brady, and adopting a son, Donald. Barker died in 1946.
William J. Barker's photographs document his family and friends, the New Orleans riverfront, Algiers, and New Orleans in the 1920’s and 1930’s. The photographs were donated to the Louisiana Division/City archives and Special Collections in 2000 and 2002.
