This collection of 155 35mm color slides shows ongoing construction projects, new buildings, some public events, etc. Information about the origin of the slides is not available, but we are fairly certain that they were transferred to the City Archives by an agency in City Hall, possibly the Streets Department. The slides indicate that their time of production may possibly be the 1940s-1950s.
The brief captions from the original slide holders were transcribed and can be seen in the description field in quotes.
Unfortunately, archivist Wayne Everard had taken the original slides home with him in order to prepare them for digitization and inclusion on the department’s original web page. Before he could return them to the Library, however, Hurricane Katrina's floodwaters destroyed the slides along with most of the rest of the contents of Wayne's house. We have retained high resolution image files (scanned at 3200 dpi); to serve as permanent surrogates for the lost originals.
